Two men were killed early Saturday morning in Covington when the driver lost control of his sports car and crashed into a tree along Jahncke Avenue. Authorities are still investigating the crash but estimate the vehicle was traveling between 80 and 100 miles per hour in a 25mph zone when the accident occurred.

According to the Times-Picayune:

A 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra driven by John Marino IV, 25, crashed into a tree on the lawn of St. Paul's School near a curve in the street Saturday about 2:30 a.m., Covington police said. Passenger Earl Carr III, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Marino died later Saturday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

Jahncke Avenue is much like magazine street here in New Orleans: a quaint little street with lots of curves and bumps. Certainly not a place you would expect an accident with multiple deaths.
